Every culture is different and the Bajan culture is unfamiliar to most individuals that are not West Indian. This is not a history report, just my favorite aspects of the place I will always call home.

Security
Security during carnival season is must be it's best. Having drunk people everywhere in a public open area there is no telling what may happen. In the islands very little people die due to violence, most deaths happen by accidents. There is always someone who gets run over by a truck on the way to Spring Garden. The security is there to make sure everything goes as planned, the Bajan Army take the Crop Over season very seriously. With thousands of tourist every Crop Over season the Bajan government can not afford to have any violence occur during this time. Most Bajans do not intend to hurt anyone when participating in Crop Over, it is their culture and they respect those that come out to have a good time.

Soca in meh Veins
Soca is a genre of music that fills the West Indies throughout the year. The music is very hype and energetic, most people can't help but feel the urge to get up and dance when they hear it. SOCA IS NOTHING LIKE REGGAE. The music that Bob Marley sang and the music that Allison Hinds sings is completely different. Jamaican culture is in its own category when compared to the rest of the West Indies.

Allison Hinds- Iron Bazodee

During carnival season all soca artist release music for the year just in time for Crop Over. In most cases there will be a regular version of the song and a "road mix" the road mix is specifically for Grand Kadooment, it is played while the masqueraders are on their way to Spring Garden. The road mix is a hyped up version of the song where deejays add more beats and sometimes different rhythm behind the lyrics.

Power x 4
One of the biggest bands on the road to spring garden, Power x 4 is the most popular band based on their creative colorful costumes and their energy throughout the day. Power x 4 have their costumes designed and made by the pioneers of carnival themselves. Designers in Trinidad are hired to design costumes for this band in Barbados, these eccentric costumes go for 300-400 american dollars.

Wukking Up
In United States everyone knows how to "Dougie", "Jerk", break-dance, or fist pump, in the West Indies our dancing style emphasizes the movement of your hips and feet. Wukking up is the style of dance typically practiced by Bajans, it is an enhanced version of slow whining. Whinning your hips as fast as you possibly can to the beat of soca music sums up the description and art of wukking up.
